During the early feasibility stages, Camets provided monitoring and assessment services to clarify the magnitude of the potential serious traffic noise intrusion problems. Initial indications, based upon a simple dB(A) assessment, were that the site could be developed, but that careful attention would be required in the selection of facade elements to exclude high levels of traffic noise. With almost two hundred homes across the site, it became imperative that for the development to be cost effective, a graduation of windows types were necessary both across the site and within each building complex . Acoustic screening and courtyards were utilised . Camets undertook detailed spectral measurements of the traffic noises and assessed the impact. We were able to demonstrate the varying impact in both character and intensity with elevation and distance, as the sound passed over, around, and behind buildings as it crossed the site. From this, windows with tested and guaranteed performance could then be matched with greater precision to each and every room, in each and every residence across the site. This advanced approach has provided our client with substantial savings in the construction of his project and will ensure that each new home owner will be able to enjoy the magnificent views untroubled by the nearby traffic. The graphic displays accompanying the building application enabled council officers to have confidence in this unique approach .
