A panel system was designed to have an STC rating of 65 dB it was constructed from layers of pre-formed sheet metal, fibreglass and rock wool. The panel, according to mass law, was 6.7 times lighter than it should be to achieve such a high rating.

This high performance would be good enough to mute ship fog horns within a building containing such a panel or allow a very noisy industry to be constructed near residences.

The layers of the panel were constructed one at a time until the three layers achieved an STC of 65 dB. The high transmission less resulted from vibration isolation between layers using a unique flexing connection system as well as different impedance materials through the layers. It was a worlds first, a break through in high performance panel designs.
