In a newly constructed building, the sound of footsteps from upstairs made work conditions intolerable down stairs. There was no noise reduction, at all, through the ceiling. Also, poor air-conditioning layout of ducts channelled sound from room to room negating discussions of commercial sensitive matters within certain office spaces. The air-conditioning system was redesigned and an acoustically designed suspended plasterboard ceiling was installed. Following these changes noise from upstairs was reduced to inaudibility and speech privacy was secured. Only one problem was identified after the work was completed the manager downstairs sent his assistant upstairs numerous times during the first week to check if staff were actually working upstairs as previously he had always heard them.
